705.3 Buildings on the same lot. For the purposes of determining the required wall and opening protection, distance to a lot line and determination of story count, buildings on the same lot shall be assumed to have a lot line between them. The assumed lot line shall be determined by an imaginary line equidistant from the two buildings. Where the fire separation distance is less than 10 feet (3048 mm), the allowable area of unprotected openings shall be reduced by an additional 15 percent.
Impact Assessment
Projects with buildings on the same lot separated by less than 10 feet will need to reduce unprotected wall openings or increase fire separation distance. This primarily affects campus-style developments and additions to existing buildings.
